For each variety or subspecies, ecological profiles are defined by the effect (positive or negative) of each ecological variable on their occurence frequency according to the following nomenclature:

  • 0 : not significant
  • 1 : - (P < 0.05).
  • 2 : - - (P< 0.01).
  • 3 : - - - (P < 0.001).
  • 4 : + (P < 0.05).
  • 5 : + + (P< 0.01).
  • 6 : + + + (P < 0.001).

Environment variables are:

  • Soil descriptors:
    • Soil1: deep vertical drainage.
    • Soil2: weathered material at less than 1.2m.
    • Soil3: dry character between 1 and 1.2m.
    • Soil4: dry character at less than 1m.
    • Soil5: uphill system.
    • Soil6: uphill system and dry character at less than 1.2m.
    • Soil7: downhill system.
    • Soil8: downhill system and dry character at less than 1.2m.
    • Soil9: surface hydromorphy.
  • Topography:
    • Topo1: lowland.
    • Topo2: foot-slope.
    • Topo3: middle-slope.
    • Topo4: upper-slope.
    • Topo4: flat hilltop.
    • Topo5: ridge.
  • Slope:
    • Pente1: level land (0-5%).
    • Pente2: gentle slope (5-15%).
    • Pente3: steep slope (15-30%).
    • Pente4: very steep slope (>30%).
  • Geological substrate:
    • SubstratGeol1: schist.
    • SubstratGeol2: pegmatie.

MI is the mutual information between the focal species and the descriptor (according to Godron, 1968).
